The Rules of Baccarat
Baccarat is a simple game in which two hands of two cards are dealt out, first to the “player” and second to the “banker”, though the bettor can back either side of the game.
After the two cards are dealt, the value of each side’s cards is declared. Aces through nines are worth their face value, while 10s and face cards are worth zero. If a total is above 10, the second digit is what is counted (e.g., a seven and a four, which total 11, would be worth one). If either side totals eight or nine in this first turn, they win.
If the player’s cards total anywhere from 0-5, a third card gets dealt to them. The banker’s third card is dependent on both the player’s third card, as well as the banker’s initial two cards:
Player’s third card: Ace, 9, 10, or face card
Banker: Draws if 0-3, stays if 4-7
Player’s third card: 8
Banker: Draws if 0-2, stays if 3-7
Player’s third card: 4 or 5
Banker: Draws if 0-5, stays if 6-7
Player’s third card: 2 or 3
Banker: Draws if 0-4, stays if 5-7
Once all the cards are dealt accordingly, the winning hand is decided by the closest to nine!
