Layer Up: Scheffler Favoured to Win Third Green Jacket

Hello, friends. It’s time for the most prestigious event on the PGA Tour, with the Masters at Augusta National set for April 10-13.

A year after finishing four strokes ahead of the field to win the second green jacket of his career, Scottie Scheffler will head to the Masters as a +450 outright favourite* to defend his place in Augusta National's clubhouse.

Though Scheffler has had a relatively anonymous 2025 to this point, he's rightfully favoured for golf's most illustrious weekend after a banner 2024.

Scheffler became the first back-to-back winner at The Players Championship, won his second Masters in three years, finished second at the PGA Championship, and took Olympic gold in Paris.

Close behind Scheffler in outright odds, and the only other golfer with odds shorter than 14/1, is Rory McIlroy at +640. While Scheffler hasn't yet won an event in 2025, it's been a bright start for McIlroy. In March, he outlasted J.J. Spaun in a three-hole playoff to become the eighth man to win multiple Players Championships.

Among the pack likely to be chasing Scheffler and McIlroy -- and a green jacket for themselves -- is last year's runner-up Aaberg Ludvig (+1,600), the ever-polarizing Bryson DeChambeau (+1,600), golf's cult hero Min Woo Lee (+4,000), and the winner of two majors in 2024, Xander Schauffele (+2,000).

While a repeat of Mike Weir's Masters-winning feat of 2003 is unlikely, the field isn't short on Canadians, either. Corey Conners leads the way on the odds board, just inside the top 25 at +6,000, while Taylor Pendrith comes in at +15,000, Nick Taylor at +20,000, and Weir himself at +250,000.

McIlroy’s majors drought has reached a decade now, but he’s primed to challenge Scheffler’s hunt for back-to-back green jackets. From the first tee on Thursday, the world’s top two golfers are set to face a crowded, competitive field.
