Twice as Nice for the Dodgers in 2025 MLB Season?

In a five-game triumph over the New York Yankees last fall, the L.A. Dodgers justified an offseason of high-price splurges — most notably one that landed them Shohei Ohtani — and won their eighth World Series.

Despite cruising through the majority of last regular season and postseason, the Dodgers weren’t done with splashes, as they brought in two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell in the winter to further bolster a team overwhelmed with talent.

As a result, L.A. is yet again headed into the new MLB season with the best odds to win the World Series. Ohtani and co. are the runaway favourites as the season gets underway, sitting at +265 at BET99*, with the next closest team — the Atlanta Braves — a distant +850.

The New York Yankees, L.A.’s final foe last October and third on the odds board at +875, took massive blows to both their lineup and rotation, after Juan Soto’s departure in free agency and news of Gerrit Cole’s Tommy John surgery.

While the Bronx Bombers' World Series hopes took a hit, it's still unlikely to be enough for the Toronto Blue Jays to pull themselves into frame in the AL East — or beyond. The Jays are a distant +6,000 long shot to win the World Series, and a slightly more generous underdog of +1,150 to win the division.

Toronto's ace and heavy hitter, however, could find themselves in postseason contention. In a contract year, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is sixth in AL MVP odds, at +1,200, after a sixth-place finish in 2024. On the mound, Kevin Gausman is on the fringe of the top 10 in AL Cy Young odds, slotting in 13th ahead of first pitch at +2,900.

Whether the Yankees, Braves, or even a surprise like the Jays find themselves in the picture come the end of the regular season, they'll be unlikely to shake L.A. from clear favourite status.

For a team that led the league in wins last regular season, and rolled through the Yankees in the World Series, it’s all about autumn baseball anyway.

Good things come in threes but, for the Dodgers and the one-man 50/50 club in Ohtani, 2025 is shaping up to be twice as nice.
