4 Nations Face-Off | Canada’s Top Players Return to International Hockey

It’s been over a decade since Sidney Crosby and the rest of the NHL stars wore their national jerseys at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, where Canada defended their gold medal and stood as the world’s top team.

Now, with new stars like Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid, and Cale Makar about to represent Canada in best-on-best international hockey for the first time, Team Canada is ready to challenge for the title once again.

The 4 Nations Face-Off kicks off Wednesday in Montreal, where Canada, the USA, Sweden, and Finland will compete in an eight-day tournament, with the championship game on February 20.

Despite some struggles at recent NHL-free Olympics and last year’s IIHF World Championships, oddsmakers still favour Canada to prove they’re the top team in the world.

The USA and Canada are the favourites to win, both sitting at +175 odds, while Sweden (+370) and Finland (+640) follow closely behind. The two North American teams will face off in the round-robin phase, and it could set the stage for a thrilling championship game a few days later.*

Even with the pressure of the moment, it’s hard to bet against Canada on the international stage. As the USA and others learned in the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, when it’s best-on-best hockey, hockey is still Canada’s game.

Sorry.
