Super Bowl History on the Line as NFL Playoffs Begin

As the journey to Super Bowl 59 kicks off, three teams have consistently been at the forefront of the Super Bowl contenders, each poised to make history with a potential championship victory.

Detroit Lions

After a gruelling season marked by numerous injuries and the toughest division in league history, the Detroit Lions have emerged as the favourites to win Super Bowl 59, with odds of +295 at BET99.*

Dan Campbell’s squad has started to shake off some of that old Lions baggage, but the team still has a tough history to overcome: no titles since the merger, one of only four teams to never make a Super Bowl, and just three playoff wins since 1957 — with two of those coming last year.

Buffalo Bills

Detroit’s not the only team that’s bounced back from years of struggles. Josh Allen has given the Buffalo Bills much-needed stability after a 17-year playoff drought. Since then, Allen has become a regular MVP contender, though he still hasn’t managed to take Buffalo to the Super Bowl.

While the Bills’ playoff history isn’t as bleak as Detroit's, it carries its own unique heartbreak. Under Jim Kelly and the K-Gun offense, Buffalo suffered the rare and unimaginable feat of losing four consecutive Super Bowls in the early 90s and has yet to return to the big game.

At +625, the Bills have the fourth-lowest Super Bowl odds with the potential of an AFC Championship game showdown at Arrowhead against fierce rivals the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs, on the other hand, embody the opposite side of the historic narrative. After finishing the regular season with a remarkable 15-2 record, Patrick Mahomes and his team head into the postseason with the second-shortest odds to win the Super Bowl, at +350.

Last February, they became just the eighth team to win back-to-back Super Bowls. This year, they’re eyeing something even bigger — no team, from Belichick’s Patriots to Lombardi’s Packers, has ever pulled off three straight championships.

While the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles could very well play the role of spoilers, the chance for a historic Super Bowl champion is still very much alive as the postseason gets underway.
